1963 with the release of the film of the same name.
The role originated
by, and is most closely associated with peter sellers. Most of the films
were directed and co-written by blake edwards, with the theme, the

Although its use in the title of most television series, 'the Pink
Panther' is not the Clouseau character, great and worth the first Pink
diamonds are shown in the first film in the series.

appears in the title of the fourth film, The Return of the Pink Panther,
where heist diamond is again the center of the plot. The Film also
marked the return of the seller to the role after a break of ten years,
which may have contributed to some confusion between the character and
the diamond. The phrase is used for all subsequent films in the series,
even when the jewel Is not looking for the plot (it only appears in six
of the eleven films).
The first Film in the series to have an animated opening sequence,
created by DePatie-Freleng enterprises and set the theme music by Henry
Mancini, which featured the Pink Panther character. This character,
designed by Hawley Pratt, was the subject of its own animated cartoon
series which gained the greatest fame when it aired on Saturday mornings
as The Pink Panther Show. The characters will be shown in the opening
of any film in the film series except a shot in the dark and Inspector
Clouseau.

Although the two most recent Pink Panther films that starred Steve
Martin, most of the films in the series starring Peter Sellers as
Inspector Clouseau and directed and co-written by Blake Edwards. Popular
jazz-based theme music was composed by Henry Mancini. In addition to
the credit sequence, the theme often accompanies suspenseful sequence in
the first movie and the next film using characters.
Ahold's other themes for the first film included Italy's language
set-piece called Meglio Stasera purpose seems mainly to introduce
young actress Fran Jeffries. Part of the instrumental version also
appears in the Musical Score several times.
Other segments include manufactured Feel,
honky tonk piano number introducing the film
climax scene through the streets of Rome. Most of the remaining tracks
on the soundtrack album are early 1960s orchestral jazz, matching the
style of the era. Although variations of the main theme would be
reprised for many entries, as well as the series the Pink Panther
cartoon series, Mancini composed a different theme for a shot in the
dark, which was subsequently adopted by the animation series, The
Inspector.

To inspector clouseau, in much the same way that frankenstein has been
used in the title of the film refers to the creation of Dr. Frankenstein
or The Thin Man was used in a series of detective films. A shot in the
dark, a film which was not originally intended to feature Inspector
Clouseau, is the first of two movies in the series (the other being the
Inspector Closeau) that displays the animation and distinctive Diamond
Pink Panther in the opening and endings. Many critics, including Leonard
Maltin, regard this film as the best in the series.
